For 68 years, hundreds of children have come together each Fall to participate in the Ollie Road Race. Their families and the entire community cheer them on as they start and finish their races at the Doc and Mary Tynan Senior Center with past special guests appearances by world renowned runner Utta Pippig and Olympic Gold Medalist Jimmy Pedro.
Medals are awarded to all of our youngest runners as well as to the top finishers in each division. After the races are complete, children of all ages and their families enjoy great food, donated by local vendors, and a carnival-like atmosphere with fun and games for all.
Sponsored by John Hancock Financial, each participant receives
a T-shirt and a book, symbolizing the South Boston Neighborhood
Houses’ continued efforts in literacy programming.
