Soggy Ollie
The Ollie Road Race Committee, Staff and Board of Directors of the South Boston Neighborhood House would like to extend a very hearty thanks to the over 200 volunteers and almost 800 participants that braved the "passing showers" we were expecting on Saturday.
The Ollie Road Race is a vital fundraiser that supports the hardworking and dedicated staff at the South Boston Neighborhood House.
We appreciate your support and we'd like to address a few issues that occurred at race. While we believe the weather had a role in contributing to these issues the Ollie Road Race both regrets and takes full responsibility.
After looking at the results you may have noticed that the course length has been adjusted to 4.91 miles. Unfortunately, the cones were misplaced in the parking lot for the turn around at approximately 2.5 miles.
This is a regrettable and seemlying correctable error that we should have been able to catch. We’ll work with our course marshals next year to ensure that this is not an issue
Also, after reviewing the results, Granite State Race Services determined that 40% of runners did not cross the timing mats at the start. After consulting with the Ollie Road Race Committee and USATF-NE, it was decided that the most appropriate action would be to time the race using "gun time". We apologize for this error, and will work with Granite State to make sure it does not happen again in the future.
All things considered it was a very competitive race organized under rather harsh conditions. We will diligently work with our partners next year to ensure that the course and timing issues are resolved. Again we appreciate support and hope to see you in 2010.
Thank You,
Ollie Road Race Committee
